Belknap Campground, Southern Sierra Nevada, California
|
| | (?) The Kern river is well over an hour's drive away. But Belknap is a beautiful campground, a rare opportunity to camp at the base of ancient redwood trees that tower 100's of feet above the campground. The main activity is hiking the Summit Trail (10 miles, round trip) to Quaking Aspen. This takes you through one of the larger of the last remaining Giant Sequoia Groves that make this area famous. The Tule River, which runs through the camp ground, is stocked with rainbow trout during the summer months, making fishing a very popular visitor activity. |
|
A quaint general store, bar and restaurant is available about 1 mile away in charming Camp Nelson. During winter months, hwy 190 is closed about 9 miles beyond Camp Nelson at Ponderosa. Winter recreationists enjoy this area for the snow mobiling, x-country skiing, and snow shoeing
| opportunities. Belknap is open year-round, but winter brings storms and sub-freezing conditions. The road to the campground is not always plowed. Rooms are available at the Camp Nelson Lodge (www.campnelsonlodge.com) and at nearby Pierpoint Springs Resort (www.pierpointsprings.com). Cabin rentals available at http://www.slatemtn.com/vacation-rentals.htm.

in the 90's. Summer overnight lows fall down to the 60's. Throughout the winter this place gets highs in the 50's while Belknap Campground night low temperatures throughout the winter are in the 30's. But wait, there's more enjoyable stuff to do in the Southern Sierra Nevada. Don’t
forget to pop by Coy Flat while you're here at Belknap Campground; why not pop by nearby Belknap Creek since you're here at Belknap Campground. If you come to this campground, you will have a good time for sure. The Black Mountain Trail offers hiking at its best, and you definitely
ought to pop by Sequoia National Forest since you're here. Belknap Campground is a good location of common rain; most of the rain falls during January; July on the other hand is the driest. Having a fine time in the Southern Sierra Nevada is easy. The great people of Camp Nelson
like to hang out nearby, and Dry Meadow Creek has a tremendous whitewater paddling spot close by. This campground has so much fun stuff to offer. Hiking along the Bull Run Cattle Drive is tremendous fun, and paddling on Brush Creek is so much fun. Don't stop me now, cause I'm
havin' a brilliant time here at Belknap Campground. Belknap Campground is right by the Tobias Creek Trail, and in the event that you don’t have a problem getting dripping wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Kern River. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Belknap Campground;
Summit Trail is a pleasant local trail. You can never get enough of the brilliant skiing at Shirley Meadow, and obviously, all our national parks are brilliant sites to take a look at and Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park is no exception.
