Monster Hall Campground, Wisconsin
|
| | We stayed for three nights in a tent along with friends in a fifth wheel camper at Monster Campground, near Unity, WI. It was Memorial Day weekend, and the sites were probably half filled. The grounds were shady with nice grassy sites with water and electricity on all the sites. Bathrooms were kept clean with the exception of leaking water from the showers which flooded the floors. There were two sets of toilets and showers, one set was at the main building that housed a bar (which served great fish fries and has its own micro-brewery), game room, and |
office. The upper bath site had no hot water all weekend. It has a separate bathroom with shower for females, and apparently for males too, but it appeared to be nailed shut. They also have a swimming pool, but it was too early in the season to be cleaned and open.
Detractors
| | seemed to be a lack of enforcing the quiet hours. Parties with music blaring, singing and yelling went on until 3 a. M. Some noise was from the weedend campers next to us, and some noise was from the permanent site owners, which also included blowing on a plastic trumpet, not only during the day, but into the night. Dogs were left barking alone on the site next to us while the owners were at the bar or at the lake. No one was in the office in regular hours, making it impossible to replenish the ice in our coolers until the next day. Office was closed at | |
|
six pm and was still not open at 10 the next. Person I talked to in the building said because of the economy he'd had to let a lot of the help go. Unfortunately, this is a big negative for us, since it made our stay somewhat uncomfortable, with the noise, lack of hot water, and
not being able to get ice. Overall, with the help of ear plugs, we were able to survive with a little inconvenience. It would be nice though, if they could put a lid on the noise. Maybe appoint one of the seasonal campers to police the sites a little better in exchange for a break
in the yearly site fees. Says Linda Pontefract
Paddling on Black Creek is so much fun, and there are plenty of folks from Unity here. Summertime highs at Monster Hall Campground ordinarily tend to be in the 70's with night lows in the 50's. Daytime highs during the
wintertime are in the 10's, and nighttime lows in the-10's for Monster Hall Campground. A common amount of precipitation falls here at Monster Hall Campground; of all the months in a year September is the one with the most rain; February is when it's the driest. This campground
is so glorious. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Big Rib River, and some close by water includes Raeder Creek. Get drenched paddling on Yellow River; if you get bored of Monster Hall Campground you could also explore close by Winding Creek Rearing Pond 1.
