  Located approx. 5 miles from the James River footbridge (South of the Johns Hollow Shelter, North of the Matts Creek Shelter)exiting the AT onto Route 130. Trail Angel on site (Ken wallace) April through October. Shuttles to and from the trail available. Mail drops accepted. Pets welcomed.

Near Wildwood Campground you come across the Sulphur Spring Trail which is a delightful hiking trail; at Wildwood Campground you can see Hamilton Knob. While you're here at Wildwood Campground you can take a hike along the Piney
Ridge Trail, and a quick spree to Terrapin Creek is definitely a good idea. This campground is a good place to take a look at. If the weather is fine here at Wildwood Campground, you can go for a hike along the Rocky Row Trail, and the cheerful people of Big Island like to hang out nearby. Otter Lake Dam is not far at all from Wildwood Campground, and Pedlar River has a great whitewater paddling spot close by.
Smith Mountain Lake State Park is a magnificent spot to stretch your legs a bit, and in case you don’t have a problem getting drenched, you
 
can always go whitewater paddling on Pedlar River. Having a good time at Wildwood Campground is easy. James River is a nice whitewater spot in the neighborhood of Wildwood Campground, and the Sulphur Ridge Trail is a fine hiking trail close by. Coming to this campground is always a good idea. A wonderful lake like Otter Lake close to Wildwood Campground is a great spot to explore; going for a hike along the Cashaw Creek Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood.
The high level of rainfall makes Wildwood Campground a quite wet place; the month with most of the rain is July, and January is the month with the least moisture. Summer brings highs in the 80's to Wildwood Campground with night lows in the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's while Wildwood Campground overnight low temperatures throughout the wintertime are in the 20's.
