My family and I stopped at Carrollwood Campground for a weekend while traveling back home after spending the winter in FL. The owners were extremely friendly - John and Jenny. They even walked us to our site and helped us with the hook-ups. The fishing lakes are filled with many big fish. While we were there, a fisherman caught a catfish that weighed in at 32 lbs! The atmosphere is very peaceful and the grounds are kept neat. It's truly a beautiful place to visit!
Thanks John and Jenny for a wonderful trip! Says Frank Jefferson

The Miles Gap
Trail is a splendid hiking trail near Carrollwood Campground, and Kennedys Lake is a nearby lake that you could pop by. This campground has it all. Going for a hike along the Yellow Branch Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region, and whitewater paddling is not
for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Little Reed Island Creek. On a good day at Carrollwood Campground you can take a hike along the Cliff Branch Trail; drift down the rapids of New River in a kayak. Just can't get enough of the Blue Ridge Mountains. If you come at the right time of year, Chestnut Creek offers some perfect whitewater, and Pine Branch is near Carrollwood Campground and is always a diversion to go to.
A normal amount of precipitation falls here at Carrollwood Campground; through the month of July you get the most rain

around here; January is when it's the driest. Scores of fun is at this campground. Don't leave Carrollwood Campground without dropping by Claytor Lake State Park. And if that's not enough there's a lot more fun stuff to do in the Blue Ridge Mountains. If you're visiting Carrollwood Campground from Woodlawn, you won't be the only one, and if the weather is glorious, you can go for a hike along the Bournes Branch Trail.
Summertime highs at Carrollwood Campground typically tend to be in the 80's. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures plunge down into the 50's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 40's; nighttime lows through the winter for Carrollwood Campground tend to be in the 10's. That right there is a load already, but it keeps on going; Carrollwood Campground has it all. Near Carrollwood Campground you stumble on the Mountain Trail which is a pleasant hiking trail, and Stone Mountain State Park is worth a visit.
