There's perfect hiking along the Little Pond Mountain Trail, and whitewater paddling is splendid on Doe River - Laurel Fork. Sycamore Shoals State Park is both good and beautiful, and it's close to Laurel Creek Lodge, and you obtain a great vista of Campbell Pen Knob from here.
This is a popular spot for folks from Hampton; Roan Mountain State Park is a great location to visit on a pretty day.
