Water wheel Campground, Southern Cascade Range, Oregon
|
| | The Waterwheel Campground on the Williamson River in Oregon is a good place for fly fishers to use as a base camp. Most spaces are set up for RV's, with a few tent sites at the end of the loop. The tent sites on the water are the same shape as the RV sites which we found a little awkward. Since for the majority of the time we spent there we were the only tent campers, we just spread into the site next door and were fine. Sites 14 and 13, although not on | |
the river, were better suited for tenting. Sites 15 - 18 are too narrow to fit comfortably. The river is audible and visible from almost every site.
Amenities include and toilet/shower house with electricity and running water
| | | as well as laundry facilities. The camp office sells some snack items as well as bottled water and a small selection fishing flies and supplies. The manager the summer of 2011 was friendly and accomodating. She let us charge our boat battery on her front porch. We were camped pretty much as far away from the office as possible and the WiFi worked fine ($3 charge).
Although I would not recommend this campground as a destination for avid campers, it is perfect | |

for using as a basecamp for flyfishing the WIlliamson and Wood Rivers. The guides all know where it is; some even park their boats there. There is an easy boat ramp. Nearby are Crater Lake Junction (gas & grocery) as well as the Kla-Mo-Ya
