Lake Hill Campground, Ohio
|
| | Welcome to LAKE HILL CAMPGROUND, a peaceful, family campground in the hills of southern Ohio. We are located in Frankfort, next to the Tricounty Triangle Trail/Adena Recreational Trail, along side of the North Fork Paint Creek.
We are just 10 miles northwest of Chillicothe, in the hills of southern Ohio, surrounded by a diverse forest of hardwood trees. The tree canopy provides an abundance of shade in the summer to our campground and sites, as well as a home to many different species of birds and wildlife. The sites overlooking the creek and ravine |
provide the best area for bird watching. This is a quiet, peaceful, family campground, away from the noises of the city and roads.
Here at Lake Hill campground, to provide for a safe and peaceful environment for all our guests, alcohol is not allowed. We also do not allow
| anyone to bring in their own fire wood, to prevent the spread of pests, especially the Emerald Ash Borer.
Our campground is situated on 65 acres of forested hills, with only 20 acres being developed into the campground. We offer large, private, shady sites, most with FHU, some sites upgraded to 50amp. This campground is not for those who prefer the resort quality accomidations, we are a bit more laid back. We don't have manicured lawns, but in the spring, the profussion of wild flowers sprinkled liberally in the grass almost make it a crime to mow | |
|
it. (But we do!) We don't have meticuously maintained grounds that allow for the maximum number of sites per square feet, stacked up like dominoes ready to fall. We have large roomy sites that allow more of the feeling of camping in the great outdoors alone.
We have excellent
toilet and shower facilities, as we just finished the new shower/toilet house, complete with ADA accessible facilities. There are four toilets and showers on the women's side and three showers, three toilets/two urinals on the men's side. The showers are coin operated, $. 25 for
4 minutes.
Our private 5 acre lake, 35 feet deep and spring-fed, provides many types of recreational activities. Fishing is free, for campers only, no license required. It is catch and release on the catfish and bass, and a limit of 20 bluegill or crappie per day per site.
We also rent out jon boats, paddle boats, and kayaks.
The sandy beach provides the opportunity for swimming and sunbathing or just building a sandcastle. We have a small playground for children under 8, and a game room with a pool table which is free. We also have outdoor
games that can be checked out and played in our grassy tier areas, including badmitton, croquet, monster golf, (the balls are the size of grapefruit and the clubs are even bigger), and bocce ball.
The entrance of the camp is adjacent to the Tri-County Triangle Trail, a paved
trail that extends to Frankfort, and then onto Greenfield, then to Washington Court House and back to Frankfort or Chillicothe. The trail traverses along the North Fork Paint Creek for about two miles in the Frankfort Area. This is an excellent trail for biking or hiking and for
bird watching.
There are many things to do and visit in our area, including the ''outdoor drama'' TECUMSEH, 35Raceway for the racing fans, Adena State Memorial, Hocking Hills, ancient Indian burial grounds, the Serpent Mount and Mound City, Seven Caves, Deer Creek State
Park, are some of the local attractions.
Because of the Emerald Ash Borer, we also ask that you not bring in your own firewood. We have firewood for sale at only $4. 00 a square foot, maple, locust, or oak. We also fill propane tanks and have a dump station available to
our campers.
We are a small campground, but we are big on hospitality, and thank you for taking the time to consider our place to visit
Great Seal State Park is both glorious and beautiful, and it's in close proximity to Lake Hill Campground, and why not go to Lake
Hill Dam since you're here. Lake Hill Campground is not far at all from Frankfort; if you come at the right time of year, Rocky Fork Creek offers some nice whitewater. Coming to this campground is always a good idea. Pike Lake State Park is a good place to explore on a lovely day,
and whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Rattlesnake Creek. Now, you may assume that's a heap but there's even more fun stuff to do here at Lake Hill Campground. Little Creek flows through this region. Lake Hill Campground gets a common
amount of precipitation; during May this area sees the most rain, and January is the month with the least moisture. Spicy Run Mountain is a delightful local ski area, and drift down the rapids of Paint Creek in a kayak. At Lake Hill Campground through the summer months highs are
in the 80's while nighttime lows are ordinarily in the 60's. For the duration of the winter highs are frequently in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Lake Hill Campground are in the 10's.
