You positively should check out Nantahala National Forest while you're here at Soco Road Campground, and don't leave Soco Road Campground without first going for a hike along the Lower Whiterock Trail. This is a delightful campground. Go for a hike on the Messer Trail, and Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a nice place nearby. Homer Burgess Dam has pleasant water scenery and it's close to Soco Road Campground, and there's tremendous hiking along the Tsali Horse Trail.
If you love the outdoors, you'll adore Soco Road Campground. Cherokee Gap is a great location to spend some time at; close by you discover the Palmer Creek Trail which is a great hiking trail. High temperatures at Soco Road Campground through the warm days of summer are in the 80's while nighttime lows are regularly in the 60's. Throughout the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Soco Road Campground. But wait, there's more enjoyable things to do in the Great Smoky Mountains. Black Rock Mountain State Park is both brilliant and delightful, and it's close to Soco Road Campground, and you'll meet a lot of people from Whittier here.
You've gotta get out, and Soco Road Campground in North Carolina is a really good spot to spend some time. All the outdoors entertaining stuff in the Great Smoky Mountains will keep you coming back persistently.
