Looking for some flowing water? Try Peletier Creek, and Cape Lookout National Seashore is one of the destinations that are nice to have a look at nearby. Campground, North Carolina is a good site for getting out.
This campground is always a pleasure. Swamps like Cheesemans Inlet close to Salter Path Family Campground make for glorious locations to visit, and on a good day it's a nice idea to spend the day at Indian Beach.
As if Salter Path Family Campground wasn't sufficient, you can also go hiking, swimming, fishing, and playing golf, so possibly you want to stay for a while. Hoop Pole Woods is a great local forest, and if you're going to from Atlantic Beach, you won't be the only one.
Croatan
National Forest is a pretty place any time of year, and don't forget to go to Bogue Shores while you're here. All the water falling down from the sky makes Salter Path Family Campground a wet location; the month of July is the wettest with most of the rain; October on the other hand is the driest. The welcoming folks working here and a tremendous variety of enjoyable things have loads of people coming here.
