Cataloochee gets an average of 3 feet of great snow annually on its 10 ski trails. Near Hemphill Mountain Campground is a good 6.3-mile-in-distance sweep of whitewater on Pigeon River - West Fork,   a class II-III, this is the Route 215/1129 Junction to confluence with East Fork segment. If you have some whitewater rafting and kayaking experience, this segment of Pigeon River - West Fork could be a good place for you. Of course, whitewater rafting and kayaking is amusing but risky; check current conditions prior to departure.
