We are laid back easy going campers but we like to see what is advertised actually be present when we get there!
This is a very small lake that has absolutely LOUSY fishing! The really nice lakefront camping sites that the photos show are all taken by seasonal campers and there are only a few waterfront sites available for anyone else. There are two or three with water and electric the
other two or three are without.|
There are a number of people who work for the new owner who ''live'' at the campground and their ''friends'' camp with them and take up an entire area of the campground making it clearly uncomfortable
| ||for others to reserve or want to reserve a spot in that area. That area has very nice lake views.|
The beach is infested with ants making it impossible to spend anytime sitting without knocking ants off your feet. The beach area is sandy and you can walk out awhile before hitting the lake muck. That was very nice as we hate lake muck!
The people who are seasonal campers there refer to themselves as ''The Turtle Lake Yacht Club'' and are very clicky. They do not want anyone else near their campsites, which happen to be all the nicest waterfront sites.
It appears the Yacht Club tries to run the whole campground for the new owner who obviously hasn't got a clue how to run
a campground. Teenagers are hanging out on the deck of the main house at the ''campstore'', the daughters of the new owner.|
Back to the campground.... The restrooms are very clean BUT very old. The ''rec room'' is an old shack with nothing in it.
The playground is in need of update and repair. Our children wanted to play basketball and the hoop was way too high and it was an overgrown grass ''court'' so obviously no dribbling. The paddle boats and fishing boats are antiques
and most leak or the oars are the wrong size and impossible to row with. They charge by the hour to rent them. The kayaks are in descent shape. Until they upgrade their fleet, they should be included for free if you ask me. The firewood
they sell just smokes and smokes... It clearly is NOT seasoned at all. There is no golfing.
If you bring your own bike it is a wonderful area outside of this campground to ride your bike.
Overall, if you are looking
for a place to spend one or two nights, particularly tent camping, in the woods with very few amenities this would be the spot. If you are looking for any of the things they are advertising like fishing, boating and beach/sand play,
and particularly lakefront camping then look elsewhere.
Fishing: Not a dang bite in a week - and no others reported catching anything either. We have been told there are very few fish left int his lake,
HELP! A few swings.
Planned Activities: None
Restrooms, VERY clean but very old.
Camp Store: good for ice and marshmallows.
