The brilliant variety of local attractions and the nearby outdoors recreation are guaranteed to keep you coming back over and over. This is really a good campground. Hiking is a popular thing to do around American   Legion State Forest; Tunxis Trail is a splendid local trail, and if you come at the right time of year, Farmington River - Riverton offers some brilliant whitewater. Do stop at Saville Dam if you're here at American Legion State Forest; going for a hike on the Metacomet Trail is always a good adventure. Everybody loves Stratton Brook State Park; you can go for a hike on the Richard Trail. There's such a great deal of things to do close to American Legion State Forest, and it is a very fine campground. Whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then we recommend Farmington River, and there are plenty of folks from Barkhamsted here. While popping by this vicinity in Connecticut it's a fine idea to go camping for a couple of days too. Near American Legion State Forest you come across the County Road Trail which is a brilliant hiking trail, and a lake nearby is Barkhamsted Reservoir. For the period of the summertime highs here at American Legion State Forest get into the 70's. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 20's, and all through the dark hours in the wintertime at American Legion State Forest temperatures plunge to the 10's. American Legion State Forest is incredibly popular with people in Barkhamsted. This campground is so delightful. The sight of Ragged Mountain from American Legion State Forest is stunning, and swamps like Beaver Brook Meadow are fun to have a look at.
