Howelsen   Hill is a very popular ski area close by, and there's whitewater on Elk River for all you adrenaline junkies. This campground is so great. Yampa River Legacy State Park is a good spot, and whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then, we recommend Yampa River. Yampa gets very little rain; the month with most of the snow is December while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. You can run the rapids of White River - North Fork near Yampa, and on a delightful day you can take a hike along the Sugar Loaf Trail. Yampa is esteemed by residents of Hayden.
