Leavis Flat - Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park, Southern Sierra Nevada, California
|
| | Leavis Flat- I loved it! Small campground, right next to Deer Creek, only 9 sites. You can buy ice and extra necessities just up the road at the California Hot Springs (resort?) No cell phone service, ranger comes by once a day, it's very mellow. You are roughing it unless you bring an RV. No showers or flush toilets. So beautiful. We were there for Memorial Wknd. Some locals said it's usually pretty empty but the campground was full for our trip. I've heard they might shut it down. Maybe it's not bringing in enough cash for the upkeep. I bathed in the |

creek. My boyfriend wasn't so brave, too cold for him. If you're planning on doing the sights at the Sequoia National Park, it's a two hour drive to Morro Rock to give you an idea. The creek is so pretty and the water is drinkable, not deep enough to swim but perfect to cool off.
| The mosquitoes weren't too bad and with the right company, it's the perfect setting to get totally away! My boyfriend has all the pics on his phone, but I'll come back and post them. Says jennychaos

you will have a great time for sure. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Leavis Flat; Atwell Hockett Trail is a perfect local trail, and you're probably keen on lakes, Twin Lakes is one of those nearby. This campground has so unbelievably much. Congress Group is beautiful and
can be seen from Leavis Flat; you can go for a hike on the Sheep Creek Trail. Going for a hike on the High Sierra Trail is always a wonderful adventure, and Kaweah River - Middle Fork is a pleasant whitewater spot nearby. But wait, there's more entertaining things to do in
the Southern Sierra Nevada. Good hiking is available along the Don Cecil Trail, and whitewater paddling is great on Kaweah River - North Fork. Having a great time in the Southern Sierra Nevada is painless. The Hockett Meadows Trail offers hiking at its best, and in the event
that you don’t have a problem getting dripping wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Kaweah River. Throughout the summer months, highs generally are in the 70's at Leavis Flat with nighttime lows in the 50's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 40's; through
the dark hours in the wintertime at Leavis Flat temperatures drop to the 20's. And that's not all you can do here at Leavis Flat. Clover Creek is one of the streams close by that might be worth stopping at, and Willow Meadow is a wonderful place here at Leavis Flat.
