A town rich in history with beautiful scenery, from rolling hills to picturesque ranches dotting the landscape. Named after Hiram Willits, it was settled by pioneering ranchers in the 1850's. Willits is the eastern terminus of the world famous ''Skunk Train'' which thousands of travelers continue to enjoy and ride each year.

Willits is also home to the Mendocino County Museum. The

museum has one of the finest collections of Pomo and Yuki Baskets in the world. The Roots of Motive Power Antique Steam Logging Equipment Display is an actual working exhibit of logging equipment used at the turn-of-the-century. And, Willits Frontier Days, the major annual 4th of July event, boasts of being the ''Oldest Continuous Rodeo in the State of California,'' paying homage to our pioneering roots. Being centrally located in Mendocino County, Willits offers visitors and residents alike the opportunity to enjoy many activities in and around our community and experience small town America at its best! We invite you and your family to make Willits your destination and see it for yourself!

Willits is the home of the Frontier Days & Rodeo, the oldest continuous rodeo in California (held every July), Roots of Motive Power Locomotive Museum and the Mendocino County Museum. Willits was the final home of the racehorse Seabiscuit: Ridgewood Ranch, where Seabiscuit trained, recuperated, and lived out his retirement, is located a few miles south of the city. If you are thinking of camping in California, Creekside Cabins and RV Resort is the perfect place for a wonderful family vacation so we hope to see you soon.

Paddling on Outlet Creek is so much fun, and Hendy Woods State Park is a great place to stretch your legs a bit. This campground is a pleasant location to explore.
