A visit to Calaveras Big Trees State Park invigorates the soul; if you're here, you could also go to picturesque Phoenix Reservoir. Whitewater paddling is tremendous on Clavey River, and a round of golf at nearby Phoenix Lake Golf Course is a good way to kill some time.
