This is a very forgiving and beautiful stretch of river; however, there are a number of strainers to negotiate. One thing, though, I have lived in MD for decades and NEVER seen a poisonous snake, not like I have out west or down south, and the VERY first outing on this stretch had us come across two copperheads within a half hour of each other, with the second sunning itself on the very strainer we had to pull the boats across and climb over ourselves. Other than that, add a couple of hours to any suggested trip durations, if the water is lower.... |

OK so after checking this one out today I was sorely disappointed. it is in no way a II-III, more like a slow moving I, not even a I-II. Also the put in location is on some private property farm so good luck getting in the water at some point where the river isn't congested down into drainage ditches going under the small roads in this area. I highly recommend some of the other gunpowder rivers however, great fun, just not this stretch.... |

...s a beautiful nature preserve with picnic facilities for large and small groups. A well-maintained path runs around the entire lake where you can normally find soldiers, retirees and their families out for a stroll or a leisurely run. We can all thank the tightening of security due to terrorism for making the lake's having less access. You must have proper ID (Government/Military issued ID) to enter the post, unless it is pre-arranged such as for family reunions and such. The Ft. Meade MWR people take good care of the lake and it's surroundings and nature teems. You will normally find ducks and geese swimming in the lake, some have made it their home. Migratory birds also have put this lake on their itinerary! There is fishing in the lake and also a healthy turtle population. Beavers also have taken up residence in one area and by some of the ''missing'' trees you can tell that they have been there. There is also a resident blue heron that can often be found on the shore of the lake or amongst the greenery on the little island in the middle. All in all, though I'm not a gre... |

Okay, I'm on Tussey's Junior Race Team and we spend every waking moment at Tussey, and love it. It takes exactly 7 minutes and 43 seconds to get up the lift and 4 minutes and 22 seconds to get up the t-bar (which they fixed with duct tape) Never get chair 32, the bars don't go down, and chairs 75 and 1 are lucky. If you ask nicely in the lodge, they'll warm up your cinnamon bun for you and always try the vending machine without money first, it sometimes works. Also, never use the front door to the lodge, you are guarenteed to fall oh, and the mountain can be skied in full tuck in 15.4 seconds. ... |
