Decorah City Campground
18 miles away We have camped here for more than 25 years and it is one of our favorite campgrounds. It is well maintained, well run, quiet, has clean bathrooms, and grassy campsites. The City of Decorah has much to offer visitors to the area. Here you will find Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum, Vanberia for those special gifts, Nordic Fest the last full weekend in July, Luther College, many parks and areas to bike and hike, plus canoeing and tubing on the river. ...
Mount La Crosse
30 miles away Mt. La Crosse is a great place to ski and is a convenient drive for many. There are enough challenging runs to keep you busy and a race course is available on Sundays. The Nastar course on Mt. La Crosse seems more difficult than in Beaver Creek, CO. They have a variety of runs and a terrain park. There are no hotels at the base but most are a ten minute drive away....
Welch Village
97 miles away ...Snow Makers, and 30 York Watersticks from Johnson Controls. A new Piston Bully snow grooming machine has been purchased from Kassbohrer ATV to enable daily grooming of the new, mostly advanced slopes. Construction of the new slopes and equipment is on schedule, aimed at opening Dec. 26, 2008. Opening of the new slopes will add terrain features substantially different from the fifty runs now open to skiers and snowboarders at Welch Village. The slopes face south and east away from the prevailing northwest winds in the winter season. Layout of the slopes includes two large bowl areas plus several sharply pitched advanced runs, and a long connecting valley with an interesting fall line. Another new quad chairlift is planned for the Back Bowl area, as well as a small ''on the top'' day chalet, hopefully opening for the 2009-10 season. For the first month after opening, the Back Bowl will only be open to guests who have membership status. For the remainder of the season the new slopes will be open to all qualified guests. Because of the more advanced nature of the new slopes,...
Chestnut Mountain
98 miles away I learned to ski at Chestnut Mountain, it's really good to go and learn at a local place like this before you go to the Rockies, so you don't waste time on the bunny slope over there....
