Spruce Hole Trail
18 miles away
While I have not had the pleasure of hiking any of its trails yet, I look forward to camping in this area. I ''scouted'' the dirt road into the Spruce Hole exit off of the main road. It is very lovely through this piece of wilderness. Lots of healthy pines, wildflowers, and plenty of wildlife too. Sorry I don't have any pictures, but if you're thinking about camping or hiking here... I highly suggest that you do!...

Rio Brazos
25 miles away
This stretch is not do-able to the average boater. It is anything but. The given put-in and take-out coordinates put you through at least one mandatory portage  on private property with a less-than-content owner. It's a two day trip, so there is at least one night of camping on private property. The run can only be done when the spring run-off is exactly right, and the V+ rating is not joking. This run is just not done. Go ahead and prove me wrong at your own risk....Note the 40' high waterfall about a mile in from the box downstream entrance. i have fished this many times, and think you would be crazy to run it, not to mention its all on private property....

Taos
51 miles away
... and picturesque ski resorts. It is a place where one can escape into the ancient cultures of the Southwest or explore the side of a vast mountain that has been opened up for skiing and snowboarding, but not tamed. Taos combines the warm ambiance of a small European-style village nestled at the base of a great mountain, a superb ski school and an ambiance founded on the classic pleasures of skiing and snowboarding. Taos blends its high elevation and arid desert climate to provide skiers with the perfect conditions; light dry snow and bright sunshine. From the famed steeps to gentle bowls, Taos' terrain appeals to the super-expert and the beginner alike. With a peak elevation of 11,819 feet, a base of 9,207 feet and 1,294 acres of ski trails, Taos offers varied and challenging terrain to delight skiers of all abilities.
One of Taos' most enduring ski traditions is the steep skiing off The Ridge. This requires a hike of anywhere from 10 minutes to one hour to get to these ''extreme, double-diamond'' runs. The reward is the best ''steep and deep'' skiing in America and a chance to ...

After a snow-filled December, Wolf Creek Ski Area has surpassed the 200-inch mark, making it the ski resort with the Most Snow in the Nation! With sun-filled days and not another storm coming in for at least a week, this is the best time to discover why boarders and skiers alike have coveted the deep powder and incredible natural snow in Southwest Colorado....

Monarch
81 miles away

...l Divide, Monarch is very accessible. It's also one of the oldest ski areas in Colorado, established in 1939.
Monarch Mountain is what you expect from a real Colorado ski area. Abundant natural snow (350+ inches) and friendly people are two of our strongest attributes. You can walk from your car right to the lifts, prices are reasonable, and the runs flow naturally back to the base area. At Monarch you'll lose the crowds but not your friends.
Monarch is a family favorite because of great snow conditions and easy access to the mountain. Having one base area makes it convenient to drop off the little ones in the Children's Center, pick-up rental equipment, sign up for ski school and get on the slopes in a timely manner. Lift lines are a rarity and you will regularly find ski runs to yourself.
Looking for great powder, spectacular views, 1000+ acres of expert terrain, steeps, trees, cliffs, and bowls? You found it with Monarch Mountain. Check out the 130 acres of hike-to terrain in Mirkwood Basin from the top of the Breezeway Lift. Monarch Mountain Snowcat Tours offers some ...
