My family and I rented a lovely country home called Maplecrest at Lake Jocasse. It was just perfect and very close to the Park and all the nearby Lake activities. It is hard to find a pet friendly rental but they were very accommodating!...
Lake Jocassee is a crystal clear mountain lake located in Upstate South Carolina. A pristine watershed created in the 1970's as part of the Jocassee Gorges Conservation Area. Jocassee is fed by a myraid of waterfalls, rivers and streams. The Lake is extremely deep with depths of up to 350 ft. making it a fisherman's paradise. The Lake has 75 miles of mostly undeveloped shoreline and is the Crown Jewel of the Southern Blueridge Mountains. A Jocassee Vacation is not to be missed....

The lake is surrounded by parks, farm land, cute towns and fun cities, which all make for a fantastic time. They provide great views, outdoor adventures and all kinds of fun activities. The cities and towns each have a different feel to them. Each one has characteristics that may make them worth visiting, depending on your interests. The ?Lake Hartwell Area Recreation Guide? may be used in two ways: First, you can look up things that interest you to find the towns and cities that offer these activities. Included is information about art galleries, biking, birding, boating, renting boats, bowling, disc golf, golf, local farms, fishing, fitness, hiking, horseback riding, movie theatres, museums, night life, performing arts, roller skating, skateparks, sporting events, tennis, waterfalls, wine tasting and zoos. Second, you can look under a particular city or town to find what activities are there. Included is information about Anderson, Athens, Belton, Central, Clarkesv...

Thompson River
23 miles away
This river will kill you!It is not suitable for any watercraft.  The stream is small, but large waterfalls appear suddenly.  The river is typically too shallow to float. The watershed gets lots of rain.Rainfall amounts may double or triple amounts in Brevard or Walhalla. A storm will change the flow dramatically....

Saluda River

This was a nice trip. Put in behind Riverside Tavern on Hwy124, went to Hwy86 in Piedmont. Only scratched the boats a couple times in the few small rapid areas. You will have to paddle about the last 4 or 5 miles due to the back water from the Piedmont dam. Trip took 5.5 hours at this time of the year with good flow in the river. I expected it to take much longer and paddled a bit every now and then. Some fallen trees but no problem going right thru them. Will defiantly go again for a relaxing day on the river. ...

Chattooga River
26 miles away
The Bull Pen Bridge to Burrell's Ford section is currently illegal to paddle due to some legal issues. AW has deemed it safe but you can get in legal trouble if you paddle here....

Chattooga River
27 miles away
We run it in 17 ft canoes and Big Shoals is the only class 3 rapid. You will have to portage your boat 1/2 mile uphill at Earls ford take out on the SC side of the river. On Low Water Bridge Rd of Hwy 28 there are about 10 primative campsites beside the river, excellant camping and trout fishing but sometimes rowdy(more than likely they are related to me) lol....
