Kaweah River - North Fork
re: North Fork of the Kaweah River, you might want to mention that the BLM sites are closed, and if you trespass onto the BLM sites you can get ticketed. Boaters/swimmers etc. should not be encouraged to trespass onto private property to enter or exit the river....This river smells like dirty diapers and beer....
Lake Kaweah
Lake Kaweah was built for flood control. So its depth varies from summer to winter. Spring and summer are the best times for fishing and skiing....
Leavis Flat - Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park
14 miles away Leavis Flat- I loved it! Small campground, right next to Deer Creek, only 9 sites. You can buy ice and extra necessities just up the road at the California Hot Springs (resort?) No cell phone service, ranger comes by once a day, it's very mellow. You are roughing it unless you bring an RV. No showers or flush toilets. So beautiful. We were there for Memorial Wknd. Some locals said it's usually pretty empty but the campground was full for our trip. I've heard they might shut it down. Maybe it's not bringing in enough cash for the upkeep. I bathed in the creek. My boyfriend wasn't so brave, too cold for him. If you're planning on doing the sights at the Sequoia National Park, it's a two hour drive to Morro Rock to give you an idea. The creek is so pretty and the water is drinkable, not deep enough to swim but perfect to cool off. The mosquitoes weren't too bad and with the right company, it's the perfect setting to get totally away! My boyfriend has all the pics on his phone, but I'll come back and post them....
Lake Success
19 miles away Saturday May 9th 2009 the water temp was quite comfortable and the locals we met out on the lake are good people....

Camp Wishon Campground
19 miles away The swimming hole is the main attraction! Ive been twice now and love it! getting a spot next to this piece of heaven is a little tough I hear. waterfalls and natural made waterslides and cliff jumping all in one spot make camp wishon the spot to be....my family has been going to camp wishon since the 1920's we stopped going about 10 years ago. we love the swimmin hole and used to like walking up to the soda spring thru doyles. (now they make you walk arround and wont let you go to the big pool by the soda spring)anyways we had 4 generations of fun here...
Kings River
29 miles away This is a great place to paddle, specially in late spring. It slows down in the summer and gets very rocky but it's a fun run even then....

Mammoth Mountain
69 miles away This is my favorite ski mountain in California, you have to go out of the state to find a better one....
June Mountain
76 miles away Really nice runs and great Sierra scenery, it's a great mountain....
Badger Pass
87 miles away Badger Pass is the perfect place to learn to ski or snowboard. It has a really long bunny slope, and all the other trails are pretty easy too. The problem is that once you know how to ski without a V-shape thingy the place has little to offer. The staff is very friendly though....
