New River Junction Campground
19 miles away People are friendly and accommodating, great fishing, tubing and canoeing, but the New River has railroad tracks running along both sides of the river. Be aware that you are camping 20 yards from an active train track!...

Deer Trail Park and Campground
19 miles away Deer Campground is the BEST local campground !!! It is wonderful experience, there are so many travelers and even the local people have found a wonderful and peaceful place to retreat for the weekend, we really enjoy the Martin's (owners) friendship, campfires, and the homemade ice cream shared over the summer. Thanks so much The Atkins Gang ...The campground has completely been renovated and is absolutely gorgeous! The bath house is like new, the pool has been resurfaced and is like new and everything is just perfect in this wonderful camp. The new owners obviously put their hearts and souls into all the renovations and they are wounderfully kind and welcoming!!! WE just couldn't believe the gorgeous trails for hiking and horse back riding, the hay rides for the kids, and all the wonderful things to do in and around Wytheville. Its a paradise for sure and we will definitely be going back! WE rate this campground a ***** 5-star experience!...
Bluestone River
21 miles away The put in and take out positions on the map are wrong! You can put in where it is marked with a blue dot, but you'll be going through about 3 miles of bottom land and slow water. The red dot is not even on Bluestone River. It is positioned on a tributary of Wolf Creek and to get there from Bluestone you'll need to be able to paddle up a 40' water fall. It also states here to look at Brooks Branch which is only about 2' wide and also runs through farm land. Rich Creek is the same way. Put in on the ''Mill Dam Road'', 1 mile north on Rt.19 from where the blue dot is. It is on the right and you can access the river where the rapids start. It is private property you'll have to cross, but if you ask before you proceed they will let you. If you don't ask they will not let you. ''ASK BEFORE YOU UNLOAD'' There are 2 property owners there you can go through. There is also nowhere to get out at Eads Mill, but Pipestem Lodge is a couple miles down stream. It has lodging and a tram from the river to the lodge. Talk to one of the locals there on the Mill Dam and they can be great help....
Big Reed Island Creek
22 miles away From the road that parallels a few miles of the lower section of Big Reed Island Creek, I think it's Rock Creek Rd. Or Rt. 694 ?? I've viewed some rapids that I think are about 8 miles above the junction with the new River. These rapids appear to be grade III to me, with a lot of large bolders. This appears to be somewhat dangerous to me but I'm a novice kayaker. Any comments about this section or suggestons?...

Snowshoe
91 miles away Snowshoe has the biggest elevation drop of any skiresort in the region which in my oppinion makes it a realtively great ski resort. You can get more skiing done before you have to get on the lift again. Which I think is very important in a ski resort....
