Wright's Orchard Station Campground
16 miles away I stayed on the first night of the 2006 operating season (as advertised) and was really impressed. The campground, bath houses, and laundry facilities were very clean and modern. I was travelling in a 37' Class A and had site #1. The outer sites look to be the best for larger rigs - even though the pull throughs are in the middle, several large trees look like they would make it difficult to get a good postion on the site. No real activities, but a nice quiet place that is close to downtown Altoona and it's activities. Would definately stay again the next time we're in town....
Wills Creek
21 miles away 1 PHOTO Drive a another mile until you cross the rail tracks and make a quick left down a dirt rd that follows the rail track. Follow 200yrd until you reach the train observation deck and park here. Cross the tracks and look at the wounderful 3 shelf drop. If you would like to run it, head right down throught trail above fall. Start river right and work to left as you exit last shelf. watch the nice keeper and the bottem left at very high water.... Water between fairhope and hyndman is full of bolders and water depths drop a lot in summer months. i advice that rafting should be done in the spring....
Little Conemaugh River
23 miles away There is a dangerous section when the elevation drops, and the river turns wicked. This is the ECHO/PARKHILL section of the river. When you see a huge green bridge, you are coming near to the drop. Be careful of the hydraulics, this is a dangerous section, but can be navigated with some foresight. ...Very dangerous river. Not recommended for beginners....Ran this river for the first time today thinking it would be a gentle paddle. WARNING. It is NOT class II. There are many boulders and ledges. Swift current in high water. Hazardous thirty-foot waterfall right after a sharp bend to the left...with no warning. I banged my kayak up really bad taking the fall and nearly died. BE CAUTIOUS....

Tussey Mountain
64 miles away Okay, I'm on Tussey's Junior Race Team and we spend every waking moment at Tussey, and love it. It takes exactly 7 minutes and 43 seconds to get up the lift and 4 minutes and 22 seconds to get up the t-bar (which they fixed with duct tape) Never get chair 32, the bars don't go down, and chairs 75 and 1 are lucky. If you ask nicely in the lodge, they'll warm up your cinnamon bun for you and always try the vending machine without money first, it sometimes works. Also, never use the front door to the lodge, you are guarenteed to fall oh, and the mountain can be skied in full tuck in 15.4 seconds. ...
