The fishermen in your group will love the quiet walk to the adjoining Flathead River to catch 'the big one'. This campground is 8 miles from the west entrance to Glacier National Park and 1 mile east of Hungry Horse. There are numerous hiking areas, wilderness spots and water fun near this campground including Hungry Horse Reservoir, Flathead Lake, the Flathead River system and the many outdoor activities which are associated with water and mountain fun. You will appreciate the clean restrooms and attention to the grounds which the owners take pride in throughout the season. Canyon RV Campground & Cabins is open from May 1 to September 30 each year.

It is a really easy climb! I think your dog also can walk. Succes....I have hiked this trail in summer with little work. However, I Tried it in march-09 and found it very difficult for several reasons. The snow was only 1 of many things....It is a pretty substantial hike for most. There is a 4000+ ft elevation gain to the top with a long flatish section midway. It is occasionally used by dirt bikes, but I've only ever seen one on the trail. Great views of the valley and the peaks of Glacier National Park....Not grueling at all. A very easy hike.Also not a peaceful walk.... |

Fabulously beautiful area, dense grizzly population and zero people. Not too hard to get to crossing Flattop on bits of an obsolete trail from Fifty Mountain, then skirt along the open hills sides near Trapper Peak. One scary steep hardpan ravine must be crossed where a slip would send you plunging 1000 feet down to Lake Nahsukin. An axe would be helpful, otherwise just run real fast so your momentum will carry you to good footing on the far side.... |
