Each has a fire ring with a cooking grate, a picnic table, lantern holder and wooden work counter for your propane stove., RV:50 and 30 amp service at each site. There is a dump station on site and water available at the Welcome Center., - 8 RV hookups, PETS:Pets must be friendly and leashed., FIRES:We have firewood for sale on site and fire rings at each campsite., STORE:Limited to personal care, ice and snacks.*, GROCERY:Mitchellsville Country Store is located 1 1/2 miles from the highway. There is a Walmart within 8 1/2 miles., POOL:But we do have fishing. You need an 18 lb. test line if you like to catch catfish. Buck Ridge Campground was closed in 2007 and I'm very upset to see that happen. The area is depressed and could really benefit from this wonderful campground. You can still hike in but we will miss our trips and the wonderful memories that awaited us. I'm truly upset about this loss. The park is gorgeous. I hope to see an outpouring of requests to reopen this national treasure.... |
Berkel Lake

My grandfather Andrew James Berkel assisted in digging the lake just after the 1937 flood of Shawneetown. The digging was done with plows and 2 horses. His father also assisted in the beginning . Around 1939 a family friend by the name of Cecil Church began to assist, he brought in a Ford bucket tractor to aid in the digging process. The lake was finished somewhere in between 1940-1943. They also constructed 8- 8 by 12 plywood boats before fishing the lake.... |
