Leisure Lake
14 miles away Leisure Lake just received a bunch of rainfall recently and the lake is really full. It is still a couple feet down from what it use to be but now is a good time to go there and look how full the lake can actually get. Also Labor Day weekend at Leisure Lake is very fun because it draws tons of people there. There will also be a DJ there Labor Day weekend so if your interested stop on out....Leisure Lake is still an awesome place in 2009!!...Leisure Lake is a beautiful place to hang out on weekends and drive around to get the great view of the lake. The lake has a bar located when coming into Leisure from the highway. Woody lives at the lake and many people that go to bars know him and he is my uncle and a really good guy. If your ever at the lake look around for Woody and get to know him....
Little Platte River
17 miles away We were two stupid college kids using makeshift paddles and $10 rubber rafts trying to go from Old Lancaster road to County D. I have been canoeing lots on lakes and I would say it would be very difficult to make much progress on this stream. There are a lot of small rapids with low rocks. There were parts that were only a few inches deep. We were lucky a lot because our rubber rafts only sit a few inches into the water, but I would think a canoe or kayak might cause problems. Also watch out for a barb wire stretching across about .5 above county D. If you don't mind carrying your canoe a lot, this stream is fairly gentle. There are some pretty rock walls too. I would not recommend this stream in the dry season though....
Chestnut Mountain
18 miles away I learned to ski at Chestnut Mountain, it's really good to go and learn at a local place like this before you go to the Rockies, so you don't waste time on the bunny slope over there....
Ski Snowstar
52 miles away 4 PHOTOS Ski Snowstar is a family oriented winter sports park featuring skiing, snowboarding, and tubing. The scenic setting is located in beautiful Coal Creek Valley, just 5 minutes west of the Quad-Cities in Andalusia, Illinois. Carved out of the native hardwood hills along the Mississippi River in west-central Illinois are 28 acres of winter fun. A state-of-the- art snowmaking system and grooming fleet provide 100% coverage when Mother Nature is not cooperating.... Snowstar, wow cool name, sounds sporty and trendy, I like it. Not just the name but ski area itself too of course. Sporty and trendy, just like me. Nah, seriously, it's a good place, and not far away. ...
Tyrol Basin
66 miles away I love these crazy alpine names, Tyrol Basin ?ok , but hey as long as the skiing is decent they can name it whatever they want. It's a good ski area based on Wisconsin standards....Tyrol Basin, heck yeah! anytime! I love the place, easily my favorite nearby local weekend spot. Excellent runs maintained by cool people, yeah!...
Mount La Crosse
76 miles away Mt. La Crosse is a great place to ski and is a convenient drive for many. There are enough challenging runs to keep you busy and a race course is available on Sundays. The Nastar course on Mt. La Crosse seems more difficult than in Beaver Creek, CO. They have a variety of runs and a terrain park. There are no hotels at the base but most are a ten minute drive away....
Devils Head
85 miles away you need to go out to south central..they got great hills...long live tookie...This is a good ski area, I warmly recommend it. Good in every way....
