Carmel River Trail
19 miles away 4 PHOTOS This is a view from the campground a few miles into the hike, I'm not sure what the camp ground was called but it was very pretty.... This is a bit of a scary but very beautiful section that comes a bit south of the lake.... This picture is taken a couple of miles into the hike after you've left the lake behind.... This is a shot from soon after you leave the dam behind, you can't see it in the picture but the trail kinda follows the right side of the lake....
Tin House Campground
19 miles away DO NOT GO TO TIN HOUSE! IT IS A BACKCOUNTRY CAMP AND THE TRAIL IS IMPASSABLE!...The trail to Tin House is impassible....
Nacimiento River
28 miles away I have lived on this portion of the river for 15 years. Although you could probaly put a canoe in the river on Fort Hunter Ligget with permission from Range Control, it would be very difficult to get past the rock formations at the Shut In. There is no public access to the Nacimiento River near Turtle Creek. One would have to go all the way to Lake Nacimiento to find a legal exit. Surface flow usually stops around the end of June, and the river turns into a series of pools. Even when the water is flowing in the spring, there are significantly long sections that would require one to portage. If one were to attempt this trip, they will be walking more than paddling, and it would be a very long day....
