Camp James
12 miles away
Enjoy our riverfront family campground and RV park on the ''wild and scenic'' Kern River!! Fish year round on one of the finest trout fishing rivers in California. All of our sites have water and electric, and we also have full hook-up sites with water, electric, sewer and cable! Our sparkling clean bathrooms have coin op hot showers. We also have a dump station. We are walking distance to a grocery store, laundromat, restaurants and river rafting companies.

We have large, shaded sites with many being riverfront or creekside. We pride ourselves on being a clean, quiet family campground. We are ''quiet'' pet friendly!!

We have firewood, ice and vending machines at the office.

Please see our website at www. Campjames. Net for all rate and reservation info, and you can check out the campsite map.

Lower Peppermint Campground
12 miles away
Awesome location. Beautiful campgrounds with plenty of space and fire pits. Many trails to hike with waterfalls and slides. We stayed at campground six, before the private ranch and we found a lot of campsites with good firepits. We fished, but didn't catch anything. One thing about the grounds is that there was a lot of trash. It's obvious that people don't pack out!! Please people keep this area clean!!...

Spent 3 nights at the pepermint campsite, very primitive great hike along the river that goes through camp. Not far from Dome rock spectacular view of valley ( not central valley)...

Belknap Campground
15 miles away
...opportunity to camp at the base of ancient redwood trees that tower 100's of feet above the campground. The main activity is hiking the Summit Trail (10 miles, round trip) to Quaking Aspen. This takes you through one of the larger of the last remaining Giant Sequoia Groves that make this area famous. The Tule River, which runs through the camp ground, is stocked with rainbow trout during the summer months, making fishing a very popular visitor activity. A quaint general store, bar and restaurant is available about 1 mile away in charming Camp Nelson. During winter months, hwy 190 is closed about 9 miles beyond Camp Nelson at Ponderosa. Winter recreationists enjoy this area for the snow mobiling, x-country skiing, and snow shoeing opportunities. Belknap is open year-round, but winter brings storms and sub-freezing conditions. The road to the campground is not always plowed. Rooms are available at the Camp Nelson Lodge (www.campnelsonlodge.com) and at nearby Pierpoint Springs Resort (www.pierpointsprings.com). Cabin rentals available at http://www.slatemtn.com/vacation-rental...

Hobo Campground

I camped here about 5 years ago and really enjoyed it. I did not do any white water rafting but I did do some hiking around the campground which was quite nice. Camp sites were clean and far enough apart to have decent privacy....

Camp Wishon Campground
18 miles away
The swimming hole is the main attraction! Ive been twice now and love it! getting a spot next to this piece of heaven is a little tough I hear. waterfalls and natural made waterslides and cliff jumping all in one spot make camp wishon the spot to be....my family has been going to camp wishon since the 1920's we stopped going about 10 years ago. we love the swimmin hole and used to like walking up to the soda spring thru doyles. (now they make you walk arround and wont let you go to the big pool by the soda spring)anyways we had 4 generations of fun here...

1. LAT 35.439250 LON -118.802450 This put in is impossible to get to without trespassing. So you need special permission. It's located right below the Rio Bravo Hydroelectric Dam. This section is actually a class IV followed by two class V's. I've done the entire Kern, it's definitely V. You can only do this extra section during very high water years because the Power plant diverts most of the water along this stretch.
2. LAT 35.429084 LON 118.825602 Also, on private property with no public access. Only Search and Rescue, Kayak Olympic Team, and River's End Rafting have access to this putin. There is also a public access point on racheria rd. There is a little trail to get there just past the gated community gates. I believe there is still a sign. It's not a long hike. That point gives you 5 miles of very fun class II and III rapids, swimming areas, rope swings, etc. Be aware that many people have died along this section of the river because they were not wearing a life jacket. It's better to do this section with a professional guide because of all the potential hazards suc...
