Tuscobia Park Falls State Trail
12 miles away

The trail is called the Tuscobia State Trail.  It runs 74 miles from Rice Lake to Park Falls, Wisconsin.  The Trail crosses through Barron, Sawyer and Price Counties.  This is a multi-use trail on the old railroad grade of the Omaha Railroad.  There are lots of things to do and places to stop along the trail.  There is now camping available at several points along the trail including Radisson, and Ojibwa.  At Winter, the last remaining railroad depot, built in 1905, will be historically restored outside and inside, it will house a visitor center, there will be trailhead parking, historical displays, and picnic areas.  The restoration is slated for completion in 2011.  ...

Bad River

Lots of rough water and lots or relaxing stretches.  A great mix.  There are some 6-8 foot drops and lots of awesome scenery.  You can stay at the Cayuga Hotel & Saloon for $20/night at the put-in.  Great food there too.   ...

Indianhead
70 miles away
The vertical drop is relatively ok at Indianhead, not bad at all....Hey, Charles here, gotta tell you, Indianhead rules. It's the only place I go to locally and so do all my friends and they all agree too that Indianhead rules around here and as far as I know everyone else in the state too....

Lutsen
83 miles away
Lutsen is not just a good ski area, it's the only real skia area around really. It's almost twice as high ar any other area within a reasonable distance. It has a great variety of runs for all levels....

Granite Peak

This is a 4-5 hour drive from the n/w side of Chicago . . . and *definately* worth it. Some buddies and I go up for a few days every winter and I have to say, this is the best you're going to find without doubling your driving time or hopping on an airplane....
i have lived and snowboarded in Colorado and Austria.
For the Midwest only Lutsen in Minn. can be compared!
The vertical keeps you challenged unlike the resorts in the U.P. and the rest of the Midwest! Only 3 hrs from Milwaukee!!!
love it if you are in the Midwest and can't head WEST!!!...

Spirit Mountain

It?s Duluth, so we?re already off to a good start. On top of that, we turn about 65 million gallons of H2O into an amazing base of S-N-O-W. And that gives you one of the longest seasons in the Midwest.
Spirits SoBe? Terrain Park is the largest in the Midwest, bar non, and it offers a super pipe, a rail park and all sorts of terrain-all built by boarders and freestyle skiers, for boarders and freestyle skiers.
A mile or more is are longest run in the middle of the Midwest? It?s something you might not expect-just like the biggest view of the greatest Great Lake all the way down.
Duluth is not just a ski hill all alone in the middle of a Minnesota winter. It?s an entire city filled with lodging, dining, events and activities-all geared for whatever winter can dish out. Find our more at visitduluth.com ...
