Yellowstone Lake State Park
 | 15 miles away When you are at Yellowstone Lake just wander out the east end of the lake to Yellowstone Chalet Campground for the friendlist people around. This is the place to go for the ''biggest'' and best ice cream cones. Breakfast 7-10 is also a treat. Wisconsin's finest cheese for sell from Local factories. Don't forget the fine selection of groceries, pop, snacks, beer. I have yet to find another campground with such wonderful facilites so close (1/4 mile) from the lake....My family and I go every year. You're right about August being the wettest month--it rained virtually every second we were there last year, but we still HAD A BLAST!!!? The campground is amazing.? We're going again tonight for our annual trip. I definitley recommend camping here.... |
Yellowstone Lake
 | 16 miles away This well maintained park offers something for everyone. The kids went swimming at the beach and amused themselves for hours, while I was able to fish. The lake has a variety and habitat to suit most anglers. We then spent the night in the wooded campgrounds after a hot shower! The state DNR really takes pride in this jewell!... |
Tyrol Basin
 | 24 miles away I love these crazy alpine names, Tyrol Basin ?ok , but hey as long as the skiing is decent they can name it whatever they want. It's a good ski area based on Wisconsin standards....Tyrol Basin, heck yeah! anytime! I love the place, easily my favorite nearby local weekend spot. Excellent runs maintained by cool people, yeah!... |
Little Platte River
 | 28 miles away We were two stupid college kids using makeshift paddles and $10 rubber rafts trying to go from Old Lancaster road to County D. I have been canoeing lots on lakes and I would say it would be very difficult to make much progress on this stream. There are a lot of small rapids with low rocks. There were parts that were only a few inches deep. We were lucky a lot because our rubber rafts only sit a few inches into the water, but I would think a canoe or kayak might cause problems. Also watch out for a barb wire stretching across about .5 above county D. If you don't mind carrying your canoe a lot, this stream is fairly gentle. There are some pretty rock walls too. I would not recommend this stream in the dry season though.... |
Chestnut Mountain
 | 37 miles away I learned to ski at Chestnut Mountain, it's really good to go and learn at a local place like this before you go to the Rockies, so you don't waste time on the bunny slope over there.... |

Mount La Crosse
 | 82 miles away Mt. La Crosse is a great place to ski and is a convenient drive for many. There are enough challenging runs to keep you busy and a race course is available on Sundays. The Nastar course on Mt. La Crosse seems more difficult than in Beaver Creek, CO. They have a variety of runs and a terrain park. There are no hotels at the base but most are a ten minute drive away.... |

Nordic Mountain offers a variety of lessons and lesson packages to help first timers, and to assist those looking to make it to the next level. Three terrain parks, with a beginner, intermediate, and expert park offer freestyle skiers and snowboarders everything they would expect in a top notch park. Nordic Mountain's goal is not only to have some of the best freestyle terrain in Wisconsin, but in all of the Midwest. Two glade runs offer expert skiers and boarders challenging tree skiing on some of the steepest terrain on the hill. Realizing not everyone is willing to try skiing or snowboarding, Nordic Mountain installed the StoneRidge Tubing Park in 2006. The tubing park is over 1500ft long with over 90ft of vertical drop. If has five chutes and numerous ''rollers'' that add lots of thrills for the riders approaching speeds of... |
Ski Snowstar
 | 88 miles away 4 PHOTOS Ski Snowstar is a family oriented winter sports park featuring skiing, snowboarding, and tubing. The scenic setting is located in beautiful Coal Creek Valley, just 5 minutes west of the Quad-Cities in Andalusia, Illinois. Carved out of the native hardwood hills along the Mississippi River in west-central Illinois are 28 acres of winter fun. A state-of-the- art snowmaking system and grooming fleet provide 100% coverage when Mother Nature is not cooperating.... Snowstar, wow cool name, sounds sporty and trendy, I like it.
