Little Platte River
15 miles away
We were two stupid college kids using makeshift paddles and $10 rubber rafts trying to go from Old Lancaster road to County D. I have been canoeing lots on lakes and I would say it would be very difficult to make much progress on this stream. There are a lot of small rapids with low rocks. There were parts that were only a few inches deep. We were lucky a lot because our rubber rafts only sit a few inches into the water, but I would think a canoe or kayak might cause problems. Also watch out for a barb wire stretching across about .5 above county D. If you don't mind carrying your canoe a lot, this stream is fairly gentle. There are some pretty rock walls too. I would not recommend this stream in the dry season though....

Chestnut Mountain
24 miles away
I learned to ski at Chestnut Mountain, it's really good to go and learn at a local place like this before you go to the Rockies, so you don't waste time on the bunny slope over there....

Tyrol Basin
37 miles away
I love these crazy alpine names, Tyrol Basin ?ok , but hey as long as the skiing is decent they can name it whatever they want. It's a good ski area based on Wisconsin standards....Tyrol Basin, heck yeah! anytime! I love the place, easily my favorite nearby local weekend spot. Excellent runs maintained by cool people, yeah!...

Devils Head
56 miles away
you need to go out to south central..they got great hills...long live tookie...This is a good ski area, I warmly recommend it. Good in every way....

Ski Snowstar
75 miles away

Ski Snowstar is a family oriented winter sports park featuring skiing, snowboarding, and tubing. The scenic setting is located in beautiful Coal Creek Valley, just 5 minutes west of the Quad-Cities in Andalusia, Illinois. Carved out of the native hardwood hills along the Mississippi River in west-central Illinois are 28 acres of winter fun. A state-of-the- art snowmaking system and grooming fleet provide 100% coverage when Mother Nature is not cooperating....
Snowstar, wow cool name, sounds sporty and trendy, I like it. Not just the name but ski area itself too of course. Sporty and trendy, just like me. Nah, seriously, it's a good place, and not far away. ...

Mount La Crosse
78 miles away
Mt. La Crosse is a great place to ski and is a convenient drive for many. There are enough challenging runs to keep you busy and a race course is available on Sundays. The Nastar course on Mt. La Crosse seems more difficult than in Beaver Creek, CO. They have a variety of runs and a terrain park. There are no hotels at the base but most are a ten minute drive away....
