Wolf River
 | 21 miles away I went rafting there two days ago and I had SO much fun! One rapid, called lower Dells, has cliffs on both sides and we jumped of them. If you jump make sure to jump far out (I hit my knee on a rock) and face toward the light green trees when you are jumping from the right side (when you are facing the rapids) Also, it is fun to swim Dave's Wave which is the second half of the lower Duck's Nest. Make sure to go down Big Smokey! And then pull your raft to the side of the river and go under the waterfall!! So much fun! The only bad thing was the water level was low... so we got pretty scraped up on the rocks.... |
Peshtigo River
 | 24 miles away ... of the resort. She directed us to a beautiful campsite tucked in amongst the hardwoods. We asked in advance about having a campfire during our stay. She mentioned that each site had a large firepit and that firewood was available to purchase upon request. When we arrived early Friday afternoon we were plesantly surprised to find our own personal supply of firewood already delivered to our site. All we needed was to find the matches and the children were busy readying a fire for brats and smores. While the kids prepared the meal the wife and I washed away the miles and stress of the city left behind by enjoying a soaking hot shower in the resorts large shower facility.
The next morning we all enjoyed a stroll around the campgrounds before heading up to the Rafting Facility for our scheduled noon departure for the Peshtigo River. I had rafted before, the wife and children aged 14 and 16 had not. I had experienced a trip previously in a guided 8 person raft in the Smokey Mountain area of Tennessee so I didn't expect to much excitement from a little ole river n Northern Wisconsin... |
Ski Brule
 | 26 miles away 9 PHOTOS Ski Brule was voted Visitor's Choice Favorite Resort 2008 in the Midwest by visitors to OnTheSnow.com! At Ski Brule, it's all about the snow. Our promise to our guests: ''Ski Brule will provide the best possible conditions at all times.'' Ski Brule is committed to providing the best snow, the best conditions, and the longest snow season in the Midwest. Ski Brule is also dedicated to providing a family-friendly atmosphere and the best value on the snow.... Whoohoo! My local ski hill on the internet, WOW! What can I say, Brule's got straight runs and wiggly runs, hard ones and easy ones, but they're all lots of fun. I've been here more times than I can remember and I keep coming back for more and more, year after year.... |
Norway Mountain
 | 57 miles away Don't let all the Viking stuff scare you. It's very family friendly, everybody is really nice. My kids love this place.... |
Nordic Mountain
 | 74 miles away 9 PHOTOS ...lk back to the top of the hill. There is a specially designed lift that tows riders back to the top of the hill while sitting in their tubes. With the addition of the park, Nordic Mountain has opened up winter recreation to everyone. In addition to the tubing park, Nordic Mountain continues to undergo many changes and improvements-one of the biggest in snowmaking. Nordic Mountain can make snow on 100% of its terrain including the tubing park. With the improvements in snowmaking technology, they can produce higher quality snow and do so in warmer temperatures. In the past few years Nordic Mountain has more than doubled its snowmaking capacity. The goal is to open earlier, close later, and remain open on marginal winter days. One of the biggest projects to improve snowmaking at Nordic Mountain will serve a dual purpose. The addition of a 10 million gallon snowmaking pond will not only supply more cold water for snowmaking, but in the summer of 2009 is scheduled to be made into the second wakeboard winch park in the country. Nordic Mountain has always been considered a great... |
Granite Peak
 | 74 miles away 5 PHOTOS This is a 4-5 hour drive from the n/w side of Chicago . . . and *definately* worth it. Some buddies and I go up for a few days every winter and I have to say, this is the best you're going to find without doubling your driving time or hopping on an airplane.... i have lived and snowboarded in Colorado and Austria. For the Midwest only Lutsen in Minn. can be compared! The vertical keeps you challenged unlike the resorts in the U.P. and the rest of the Midwest! Only 3 hrs from Milwaukee!!! love it if you are in the Midwest and can't head WEST!!!... |
