This is a 4-5 hour drive from the n/w side of Chicago . . . and *definately* worth it. Some buddies and I go up for a few days every winter and I have to say, this is the best you're going to find without doubling your driving time or hopping on an airplane....

There is a specially designed lift that tows riders back to the top of the hill while sitting in their tubes. Nordic Mountain can make snow on 100% of its terrain including the tubing park. With the improvements in snowmaking technology, they can produce higher quality snow and do so in warmer temperatures.
