Cedar Hills Campground

Pets allowed, on leash.
At least one regular camper lands his helicopter at camp occasionally, so if you have one...
Overnight camping is about $16, electric sites available. Bring quarters for the showers. Ice and firewood available.
Many sites have absolutely beautiful views, you won't find this at Jellystone.
You also won't find a camp store, organized activities, golf carts, swimming pool, restaurant and bar. This is a very pleasant basic campground. Not much to offer to bored little kids other than that which nature provides.
It's not uncommen to see hawks and bald eagles soaring over the valley. From our site this spring we regularly see an adult pair of eagles with their babies. Cool.
Interesting aside thing, this is also an operating farm, with cows and corn and tractors and stuff. You have to drive past the barn to get in. Remember to say HI! to the cows, they appreciate the attention.

This well maintained park offers something for everyone. The kids went swimming at the beach and amused themselves for hours, while I was able to fish. The lake has a variety and habitat to suit most anglers. We then spent the night in the wooded campgrounds after a hot shower! The state DNR really takes pride in this jewell!... |
Yellowstone Lake State Park

When you are at Yellowstone Lake just wander out the east end of the lake to Yellowstone Chalet Campground for the friendlist people around. This is the place to go for the ''biggest'' and best ice cream cones. Breakfast 7-10 is also a treat. Wisconsin's finest cheese for sell from Local factories. Don't forget the fine selection of groceries, pop, snacks, beer.
I have yet to find another campground with such wonderful facilites so close (1/4 mile) from the lake....My family and I go every year. You're right about August being the wettest month--it rained virtually every second we were there last year, but we still HAD A BLAST!!!? The campground is amazing.? We're going again tonight for our annual trip. I definitley recommend camping here.... |

In the past few years Nordic Mountain has more than doubled its snowmaking capacity. The goal is to open earlier, close later, and remain open on marginal winter days. The addition of a 10 million gallon snowmaking pond will not only supply more cold water for snowmaking, but in the summer of 2009 is scheduled to be made into the second wakeboard winch park in the country.

This is a 4-5 hour drive from the n/w side of Chicago . . . and *definately* worth it. Some buddies and I go up for a few days every winter and I have to say, this is the best you're going to find without doubling your driving time or hopping on an airplane....
