New River Junction Campground People are friendly and accommodating, great fishing, tubing and canoeing, but the New River has railroad tracks running along both sides of the river.  Be aware that you are camping 20 yards from an active train track!... Big Reed Island Creek 13 miles away From the road that parallels a few miles of the lower section of Big Reed Island Creek, I think it's Rock Creek Rd. Or Rt. 694 ?? I've viewed some rapids that I think are about 8 miles above the junction with the new River. These rapids appear to be grade III to me, with a lot of large bolders. This appears to be somewhat dangerous to me but I'm a novice kayaker. Any comments about this section or suggestons?... Hoge Pond 15 miles away Yes, Harvey; Hoge Pond is on private property.  It is a beautiful lake cradled by the rolling hills outside Blacksburg.  A small residence sits on the shoreline. ...Can anyone tell me how to get to Hoge Pond. Is there somewhere you can park and hike to it? I've tried Walnut Springs with no luck. Thanks for your help!... Winterplace 40 miles away Winterplace now has 28 trails + a terrain park. They have expanded the beginner area to include a new trail.... You can get more skiing done before you have to get on the lift again. Which I think is very important in a ski resort....
