Roanoke Island has many walking trails, through town and around the community. It is also possible to take a walk during the day through The Lost Colony's Fort Raleigh National Historic Site and Theatre Area. Also located just next door, for a small admission fee you may walk through Elizabeth Gardens. It is a must see as well. The Garden is well maintained and marked with knowledgable staff.
The Nags Head Wood Nature Conservancy in Nags Head also has many walking trails.
