Eldridge Lake 12 miles away Many years ago, my Grandfather, Jonas L. Fuller, with the help of my Mom, when she was but a girl, measured the bottom of Eldridge Lake and proved that it is not bottomless as folklore has it. He used a rowboat and a fishing reel and a heavy lead sinker on the end of the line. He would drop the sinker until it hit bottom and then measure the line. He had made a grid of the lake using points on the shore to line up on and did a reading every few feet all over the lake....I remember the swings ride going out over the water when I was about 10 years old (the old wooden rollercoaster was enough to scare any 10 year old) I was woundering if row boats or other water craft are leagal to take on the lake as I have not seen any on the lake in quite some time.... ''MAVERICK'' is an intermediate run that is a quarter mile long and averages 180 feet wide. The West Woods trail expansion has grown Swain Resort's trail system by over 12% in skiable acres with more to come! In Bina Robinson's book about the founding of Swain Resort (With Our Own Four Hands, available at Amazon.com) there was mention of ''Last Will'' originally being named ''Last Will and Testament.'' With last year's trail expansion opening the possibility for Snowriders to bypass the steep part of Last Will and continue further down, we have taken the opportunity to bring back ''Testament'' as a blue square that can be accessed from either the ''Last Will'' headwall or from what is now ''The Pass'' and ''Fool's Gold'' in keeping with our West Woods theme. In addition to ''Maverick'' the new cut-through between Maverick and Twister will be a blue square called ''Bandit's Pass''. NEW TRAIL: THE GLADE We have opened up some fantastic glade skiing & riding above 80-acres and between Dozey Doe and Ben Blakely.... Ski Denton 71 miles away I have been the advisor for the Cowanesque Valley Ski and Snowboard Club for 7 years. Our club has always come to Denton Hill. We have over 60 members in our club this year ranging from 1st grade to adulthood. We are so fortunate to have access to such a terrific mountain! The trails are challenging and the scenery picturesque. Our beginner members have benefited from the patience of Denton instructors and have developed into good skiers/boarders. The prices at the snack bar are reasonable and we enjoy munching on hot chili, and nachos and cheese. Thanks Denton for helping us cope with the winter blues. We look forward to every Sunday we spend at your slopes and do not look forward to the end of the season.... Elk Mountain 97 miles away 3 PHOTOS Elk is uncrowded and really fun. They seem to make the best out off the conditions weather gives them. Good, long trails(for Pa). I liked the mini park. The ''bigger'' park made the best of the space. I surface lift in the park lets you session as long as you want, and stay in the park. Great for dialing in on my skillz. Couple of the rail and box features are really cool. I will go to Elk a couple times a year.... Montage Mountain 98 miles away 13 PHOTOS My 1st time here was soooo memorable... I won coorslight free ride 09....I LOVE THE MOUNTAIN!!!!! I can't wait to.return..... the conditions were excellent!!... i kno you guys give skiing lessons. i was just wondering if you gave snowboarding lessons because i wanna learn how to snowboard.... Great little ski mountain in Pennsylvania, Montage Mountain as some really good runs for serious skiers like myself. It's my favorite ski resort in the region.... Tussey Mountain 99 miles away Okay, I'm on Tussey's Junior Race Team and we spend every waking moment at Tussey, and love it. It takes exactly 7 minutes and 43 seconds to get up the lift and 4 minutes and 22 seconds to get up the t-bar (which they fixed with duct tape) Never get chair 32, the bars don't go down, and chairs 75 and 1 are lucky. If you ask nicely in the lodge, they'll warm up your cinnamon bun for you and always try the vending machine without money first, it sometimes works. Also, never use the front door to the lodge, you are guarenteed to fall oh, and the mountain can be skied in full tuck in 15.4 seconds. ...
