Montgomery Lake
 | My dad, Walter Merhalski, one of the residents of Florence, Wisconsin, in the 1930's, used to walk, as a boy, from his home in Florence to Montgomery Lake in the summertime. Quite a hike!... |
Jule Lake
 | Jule Lake was named after my Grandmother when my Grandfather came to this country from Sweden. The story was that he offered the seller(don't know who that was) $500 for all of the acreage(Including the Lake) and $50 for the Old Logging cabin that was on the Property... |
Menominee River

Paint River
 | 14 miles away I just took a 30 mile trip down this river with a group of 6 and three canoes. I thought it was great overall. There are a few shallow spots where we had to get out of the boat and pull it through the water but otherwise the depth is good. As far as the quote ''pretty good campgrounds'' go, these were not easily found but can be set up in the less dense forests alongside the water. The stretch over the hemlock rapids is a bit difficult on the lower hemlock but the upper is an exciting though slightly wet ride. The overall current throughout the river is not too fast so some paddling is needed. Thats about it, this is a great river. The scenery is beautiful, and if your staying overnight the stars are miraculous, so enjoy the view. If your in the trees alot watch out for ticks, (they found me well) but other than that, enjoy the ride.... |
Silver Lake Resort
 | 16 miles away The Silver Lake Resort is now under new ownership and is undergoing some very nice improvements.? Their new website is at www.silverlakeresortonline.com... |
Peshtigo River
 | 28 miles away ...already delivered to our site. All we needed was to find the matches and the children were busy readying a fire for brats and smores. While the kids prepared the meal the wife and I washed away the miles and stress of the city left behind by enjoying a soaking hot shower in the resorts large shower facility.
The next morning we all enjoyed a stroll around the campgrounds before heading up to the Rafting Facility for our scheduled noon departure for the Peshtigo River. I had rafted before, the wife and children aged 14 and 16 had not. I had experienced a trip previously in a guided 8 person raft in the Smokey Mountain area of Tennessee so I didn't expect to much excitement from a little ole river n Northern Wisconsin. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised. Not only is the Peshtigo touted as the longest most continuous stretch of W/W in the Midwest with rapids rating into the class III/IV range depending on water levels, but today because the river was running at a moderate level we all had the option of paddling our own personal Funyaks. Funyaks are actually one man inflatable kayaks... |
Ski Brule
 | 43 miles away 9 PHOTOS Ski Brule was voted Visitor's Choice Favorite Resort 2008 in the Midwest by visitors to OnTheSnow.com! At Ski Brule, it's all about the snow. Our promise to our guests: ''Ski Brule will provide the best possible conditions at all times.'' Ski Brule is committed to providing the best snow, the best conditions, and the longest snow season in the Midwest. Ski Brule is also dedicated to providing a family-friendly atmosphere and the best value on the snow.... Whoohoo! My local ski hill on the internet, WOW! What can I say, Brule's got straight runs and wiggly runs, hard ones and easy ones, but they're all lots of fun. I've been here more times than I can remember and I keep coming back for more and more, year after year.... |
