Cathance River
 | 15 miles away Fun short spot, We made it a overnight trip and had a good old time. There needs to be a bunch of water in this stream to even make it doable. on 4/20 we were scooting-ass over many shallow spots in our yaks. Fun drops with laziness inbetween make for a good time especially for the novice.... |
The Birches Campground

Chaffin Pond
 | 19 miles away This is a nice small pond just off of 302 but you can't hear any of the busy traffic. I'd recommend LOTS of bug sprays as the mosquitoes tend to swarm and are very plentiful this year. If you're not a fisherman but your children are...there are picnic tables for you to enjoy a book, needlepoint, or just relax and take in the fresh air.... |
Nezinscot River

Crooked River
 | 29 miles away My sister and I put in just below eddes falls this summer and kayaked all the way to sebago lake. Nice trip....My friend Dan and I ran part of this section last summer. Instead of putting in at Scribner's Mill, we launched from Edes Falls, just above the Rapids. It was a good inroduction to whitewater. Dan flipped within the first five minutes, but being that the water is relatively shallow, he did little more than get wet on a hot summers day. The Route 302 bridge is a logical pull out spot. There is a large mass of debris blocking passage of the river there. The only tricky part is that the walls of the riverband are steep and slippery, so it helps to have someone with you for the portage.... |

Nestled among pastures and farmlands in the quaint village of Jackson, New Hampshire, Black Mountain is the quintessential New England ski destination. Check out the Lostbo Glades or Carter Notch for some of the finest tree skiing in the East. Whatever your ability, Black Mountain has something to offer. 'Black is almost certainly one of the best areas you've probably never skied. Even though it's been operating for 72 years, it's still a well-kept secret. Many of the trails are narrow. They twist and turn through the woods the way ski trails should. It's a very different experience than skiing down the crowded, wide-open, straight-down the falline trails so prevalent of newer, more glamorous resorts.' -- Tim Jones of Eastern Slopes Black Mountain Ski Area 603 383 4490 www.blackmt.com Black Mountain is an... |
