Mendota Hills Campground
When we visited Mendota Hills Campground we were amazed with the overwhelming friendliness this campground offers. It is a beautiful place to come and un-wind, find wholeness, and take quality-time with your family. The beautiful scenery makes us forget we are in the state of Illinois ! Come and see for yourself....
Lake Sule
19 miles away I was there last weekend and tried a honey hole for muskie and bass caught 4 largemouth and smallmouth no size...I wasn't really impressed we caught those fish in two foot of water......

Vermilion River
28 miles away Please, do not go past Lowell into Oglesby. I have had a bad experience at the Buzzi cement Plant Dam in Olgesby. Many people go over it and have drowned. Including one more this weekend. Please PULL OUT your canoe to the right, if you insist on going this way....I am from Japan and when i went to the vermilion river it was awesome. Japan does not have anything like it....This is an awesome trip when the river is high enough, its best to go in the spring and early summer, You can also put in farther up stream in streator or numerous other spots on the way down. This river has beautiful scenery, cliffs, outcroppings, and wildlife. There is lots of nice flat water and ripples and lots of sandbars to pitch a tent or hang out for the day. It flows through Sandy Ford and Matthiessen state park. The stretch between red, white, and blue bridge and lowell bridge (the put in described on this page) also has some fun whitewater before you get to lowell bridge...
Villa Olivia
73 miles away Villa Olivia is a great place to bring your family specially of you have small kids. It's like a big snow playground. The slope is not very impressive but it's ok for a quick little mini ski trip....
Grand Geneva
75 miles away I think Grand Geneva is where I went skiing last year when I was up there visiting some old friends, but it may have been some other similar place. It was my first time skiing, it was great. I fell a lot but you know, you just get up again, that's just the way it goes. Looking forward to going again some time....
Tyrol Basin
76 miles away I love these crazy alpine names, Tyrol Basin ?ok , but hey as long as the skiing is decent they can name it whatever they want. It's a good ski area based on Wisconsin standards....Tyrol Basin, heck yeah! anytime! I love the place, easily my favorite nearby local weekend spot. Excellent runs maintained by cool people, yeah!...
Alpine Valley
77 miles away Alpine Valley is a very good ski resort for being in Wisconsin, it's a bit more on the easy side of the spectrum so if you're an advanced skier you might get bored. But I love it, it's a great place for a relaxing day of skiing. I come here a lot with my family and we all like it....
