While it’s unclear whether the State will put ''trail closed'' signs up, there is no apparent money to maintain them and fallen trees, washouts, and other issues will undoubtedly happen. Des Plaines 15 miles away 1 PHOTO To inspect for log jams beneath the gravel pit access bridge directly east of Romeoville High School, you are allowed to drive up to, but not ACROSS the bridge, according to a security gaurd at the gravel pit. To check for log jams, I'd park BEFORE the bridge, and get out and walk across the bridge, looking over the railing. Also, there's a spot where you can walk up to the river edge. Facing east, it will be on your right, before the bridge. I'm uploading a photo dated April 12, 2002. It's a view of that bridge, taken from the water, looking southwest.... Villa Olivia 35 miles away Villa Olivia is a great place to bring your family specially of you have small kids. It's like a big snow playground. The slope is not very impressive but it's ok for a quick little mini ski trip.... Wilmot mountain 55 miles away I love wilmot, i go there almost every day in hte winter. Last season, i even went on christmas day. It was great.... Grand Geneva 67 miles away I think Grand Geneva is where I went skiing last year when I was up there visiting some old friends, but it may have been some other similar place. It was my first time skiing, it was great. I fell a lot but you know, you just get up again, that's just the way it goes. Looking forward to going again some time.... Alpine Valley 74 miles away Alpine Valley is a very good ski resort for being in Wisconsin, it's a bit more on the easy side of the spectrum so if you're an advanced skier you might get bored. But I love it, it's a great place for a relaxing day of skiing. I come here a lot with my family and we all like it....
