Do I need any special permission to take my two sons on an overnight canoe/camping trip on the Ogeechee River from Jewell to Hwy 123?...Hey, I'm new to Georgia. Back home in Texas we had lots of fun as a family going tubing on some mild white water. Are there any lazy rivers with some white water scattered throughout that are close to Milledgeville, Ga.?...Sure the short length is great for dodging deadfalls and dragging over logs. If they are true whitewater boats, they won't track quite as well in the long flat sections. Overall, they'll be a lot of fun.... |

There are two open spillway dams between the Hwy 28 (Fury's Ferry) Bridge and I-20: Stevens Creek Dam (at the confluence of Stevens Creek) and the Augusta Canal Diversion Dam (about a mile downstream of Stevens Creek Dam). There are no marked access points immediately on either side of either dam. Georgia Power Co. operates an electric generating facility on the Georgia (south) bank at Stevens Creek. At the Canal, since the canal immediately parallels the river some twenty feet above it, there is no river access whatsoever on the Georgia side. Portage would be recommended along private land on the South Carolina side of both dams.... |
