Monarch
 | 38 miles away 3 PHOTOS ...ntain is located in south central Colorado, well south of the freeway madness that gridlocks Interstate 70 from Denver to the Front Range resorts each weekend. Located on Highway 50 on the Continental Divide, Monarch is very accessible. It's also one of the oldest ski areas in Colorado, established in 1939. Monarch Mountain is what you expect from a real Colorado ski area. Abundant natural snow (350+ inches) and friendly people are two of our strongest attributes. You can walk from your car right to the lifts, prices are reasonable, and the runs flow naturally back to the base area. At Monarch you'll lose the crowds but not your friends. Monarch is a family favorite because of great snow conditions and easy access to the mountain. Having one base area makes it convenient to drop off the little ones in the Children's Center, pick-up rental equipment, sign up for ski school and get on the slopes in a timely manner. Lift lines are a rarity and you will regularly find ski runs to yourself. Looking for great powder, spectacular views, 1000+ acres of expert terrain, steeps, tre... |

Copper Mountain
 | 92 miles away 1 PHOTO ...th vision and conviction. He took one look at the current site of Copper and told his friends, I don’t care how everyone else does it, we're not everyone else, and he meant it. He negotiated a deal to purchase 280 acres at the base and worked with the Forest Service to establish parameters and guidelines for the ski area. Chuck was both a renegade and a visionary. During the summer of '71, initial construction began on the ski trails. Today, Chuck’s dream is alive and well.
As stated in a 1969 US Forest Service report, if there were a mountain that had terrain for skiing it would be Copper Mountain. It is the most nearly perfect ski mountain in the U. S. Over the years, new lifts were added and Copper grew to its current size of 2,465 acres. What was once a sleepy little day ski area is now one of Colorado's premier year-round destination resorts. In 1997, the resort was purchased by Intrawest - a worldwide leader in resort operations and real estate development.
Now the resort consists of not only an incredible mountain, but multiple villages, hundreds of buildings and... |
