Marion Lake
 | 1 PHOTO Fun? I must have the wrong place. Getting to Marion Lake is fun as well as the hiking sites along the way (Marion Mine, and others) but I wouldn't say this is a tourist stop. OK place to grab a few fish, but stay well-hidden. It is a level area and a quick walk can be made to Greenhorn Mountain Road.... |

Taos
 | 80 miles away ...the world's most unique and picturesque ski resorts. It is a place where one can escape into the ancient cultures of the Southwest or explore the side of a vast mountain that has been opened up for skiing and snowboarding, but not tamed. Taos combines the warm ambiance of a small European-style village nestled at the base of a great mountain, a superb ski school and an ambiance founded on the classic pleasures of skiing and snowboarding. Taos blends its high elevation and arid desert climate to provide skiers with the perfect conditions; light dry snow and bright sunshine. From the
famed steeps to gentle bowls, Taos' terrain appeals to the super-expert and the beginner alike. With a peak elevation of 11,819 feet, a base of 9,207 feet and 1,294 acres of ski trails, Taos offers varied and challenging terrain to delight skiers of all abilities. One of Taos' most enduring ski traditions is the steep skiing off The Ridge. This requires a hike of anywhere from 10 minutes to one hour to get to these ''extreme, double-diamond'' runs. The reward is the best ''steep and deep'' skiing in A... |
Monarch
 | 92 miles away 3 PHOTOS ... south central Colorado, well south of the freeway madness that gridlocks Interstate 70 from Denver to the Front Range resorts each weekend. Located on Highway 50 on the Continental Divide, Monarch is very accessible. It's also one of the oldest ski areas in Colorado, established in 1939. Monarch Mountain is what you expect from a real Colorado ski area. Abundant natural snow (350+ inches) and friendly people are two of our strongest attributes. You can walk from your car right to the lifts, prices are reasonable, and the runs flow naturally back to the base area. At Monarch you'll lose the crowds but not your friends. Monarch is a family favorite because of great snow conditions and easy access to the mountain. Having one base area makes it convenient to drop off the little ones in the Children's Center, pick-up rental equipment, sign up for ski school and get on the slopes in a timely manner. Lift lines are a rarity and you will regularly find ski runs to yourself. Looking for great powder, spectacular views, 1000+ acres of expert terrain, steeps, trees, cliffs, and bow... |
